Once upon a time, in Sambas there lived a rich merchant with two sons, Muzakir and Dermawan. Muzakir is very greedy and stingy, doesn’t care about poor people. Meanwhile, Dermawan always gives charity and is not greedy with money. Before he died, the merchant divided his wealth equally so that there would be no envy among his children. Muzakir put his money in a safe and just laughed when he saw poor people, while poor people actually came to Dermawan’s house.
Benefactors are always happy to welcome poor people, giving them food and money out of pity. However, over time his money ran out and he could not afford his large house. He also moved to a smaller house and had to work with enough pay to eat. Even though his life is simple, he feels happy. Meanwhile, Muzakir, his brother, who felt that Dermawan was stupid, bought a better house and a large coconut plantation, but Dermawan didn’t care.
One day, while Dermawan was resting in his yard, a sparrow fell in front of him and squeaked in pain. Dermawan felt sorry for him, caught and cared for the bird. After the wings were treated, the bird became tame and was able to fly again after a few days. The next day, the bird came again bringing seeds which he placed in front of Dermawan, which he then planted behind the house.
Three days later, the seed grew into a watermelon tree which Dermawan took good care of. Dermawan hoped to get a lot of fruit, but only one watermelon grew to a very large size. When harvested, the contents of the watermelon turn out to be yellow sand which is gold. Dermawan was very happy and thanked the bird he had previously helped
With a lot of new money, Dermawan bought a nice house and fed the poor. He became rich, while Muzakir felt jealous and wanted to know the secret of his younger brother’s luck. Muzakir then ordered his people to look for birds with broken wings, but none were found. Muzakir then decided to deliberately break the wings of the bird he had caught and pretended to care for it, until the bird finally recovered. The bird returned with seeds which were planted in Muzakir’s
The watermelon tree grew well, was very large, but when it was cut open, the contents were black mud and foul-smelling feces. Muzakir was very angry and ran out screaming, while the people around him laughed at the incident.
The conclusion of the story is to be nice to everyone because later you will get a good response and conversely, don’t be bad to anyone because the response you receive will also be a bad response.
